What is Terrazzo
Terrazzo is the name given to the process of producing tiles, or precast elements, from a cement based marble/granite aggregate mix. Our manufactures use high performance cements with special additives, combined with graded marble and granite aggregates of the best quality. This enables us to manufacture a product that is aesthetically pleasing, practical and high in performance.
The main benefits of using terrazzo are: an almost unlimited colour palette, lowest flooring cost / life cycle, a smooth floor surface without grout indentations, lifetime durability and simple maintenance.
TERRAZZO TILES: Precast terrazzo tiles are produced in two layers using marble aggregates, selected marble dust and high compression cements. 575 Kg/cm.sq white cement is used in the face (top) layer and 425 Kg/cm.sq grey cement in the backing layer. They are vibrated and hydraulically pressed to a very high pressure, incorporate special additives and high-quality pigments and are manufactured in conformity with BS EN 13748-1 or 2: 2004. The finish of the top surface is then ground to expose the stone chippings to reveal their beauty. Tiles are usually then given a final polish at our factory or on site after installation.
CALIBRATION: Terrazzo tiles can calibrated to exact thickness, to allow for variances in the space available between the sub-floor and the finished floor level. FINISHES: For a sand/cement installation, where the final grinding and polishing is done on site, our standard finish would be honed, un-calibrated and square edged. For an adhesive fix installation, where the final grinding and polishing is done on site, our standard finish would be honed, square edged and calibrated. For sand/cement or adhesive fix installations, where it is not possible to grind or polish on site, we can supply tiles polished, calibrated and with or without beveled edges.
